Reiki is a form of energy healing with roots in Japan. The name Reiki comes from the combination of the Japanese words “Rei” which means “spirit, miraculous, divine” and “Ki” which means “vital energy”. Reiki healers manipulate the flows of the natural life energy that flows around an individual, guiding it in ways that benefit health and promote healing. The technique used involves laying of hands on the patient in question, but Reiki masters actually heal from long-distance with a form of prayer. Reiki also accomplish such outcomes as easing pain, calming children, stimulating healing, and alleviating stress.
Reiki is non-invasive, easy to administer and effective. These are all factors most people appreciate when choosing a popular holistic therapy course. As potential Reiki learners do not require any inborn talent or special spiritual skill to acquire this healing ability, Reiki can be learned by anyone under the right supervision and mentoring. The 3 progressive stages of Reiki proficiency are;
Reiki Level 1 (First Degree):
This level of Reiki training serves as an introduction to the basics. Here, practitioners learn to open their channels of energy and let it flow down from the crown of the head to their hands, where they can experience it as a sensation of tingling, heat or cold. This first level does not require any previous preparation or training. The workshop is typically taught over 12 hours or a weekend so it is a great and easy skill to pick up that you can use to provide comfort for friends and family.
Reiki Level 2 (Second Degree):
The only prerequisite for progressing to the second degree of Reiki proficiency is to have undergone and completed the first degree. Here, the practitioner learns to channel even more energy and send Reiki and healing across distance long distances. The Reiki student receives 3 symbols at this stage.
- The Power symbol which increases the amount of energy that can be channeled.
- The Mental symbol which helps to bring balance to the mind.
- The Distance symbol that enables healing to be sent across distance.
Reiki Level 3 (Third Degree/Master)
The third level of Reiki is usually taught as one designation for Third Degree and Master, but some teachers like to separate these. Both levels receive the master attunement symbol. The major difference between the two designations is that while third degree practitioner is able to create a brief energy opening for others, they are not in possession of the techniques required to perform initiations.
